Yusuf makes list of 100 Top African scholars

The immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Prof. Mudashiru Olalere Yusuf, has been listed as one of the 100 African top most scholars  based on relevant and impactful publications and the number of citations made from such publications.

This development was revealed in a study conducted by the AD African Scientific Index, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN BULLETIN.

The “AD Scientific Index” is the first and only study that shows the total and the last five-year productivity coefficients of scientists based on the h-index and i10 index scores and citations in Google Scholar.

In other words, the “AD Scientific Index” provides both the academic ranking and analysis results.

Prof. Yusuf was rated 69 among his colleagues from other parts of Africa.

Speaking to UNILORIN BULLETIN, Prof. Yusuf expressed his delight with the rating, which he said was brought to his attention by a colleague who is based outside Nigeria.

He added that he was particularly happy with the development considering the poor conditions of service in Nigerian universities where lecturers used their personal resources to engage in research and development activities as against what is obtainable in other climes.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the rating of Prof. Yusuf, who is also a one-time Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Unit (COMSIT),  as a good and exciting news not only to him as the Chief Executive of the University but also to the entire members of the UNILORIN community.

In a statement signed by the Director, Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that the development is “a palatable end of the year gift for  members of the University of Ilorin community and the nation’s academic community”.

The Vice Chancellor commended the intellectual and administrative resourcefulness of the former Dean as he also described him as one of the shining stars the Better By Far University is blessed with.

He assured members of the University community of the readiness of the institution’s administration to assist them in the task ahead.

Also commenting, the Director of  the Centre for International Education, University of Ilorin (CIE) Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem said the recognition of the efforts of Prof. Yusuf  is a very good development that  would surely boost the university’s Internationalisation drive.

Prof. Ibraheem, who is also the Mufti of Ojoku land, added that the development would equally serve as a stimulating influence for other academic staff of the University, saying that his Centre is very proud of Prof. Yusuf.
