HISTORY OF SCHOOL OF PRELIMINARY STUDIES (FUFU)
The School of Preliminary Studies was established by the University of Ilorin in 2006 after the approval of the Senate. Initially known at inception as Centre for Remedial and Faculty Self-financing Programmes, the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, inaugurated the Board of the School after the name was changed in 2008 and the subsequent administrations have supported the School in no small measure. It is pertinent to acknowledge the unprecedented massive infrastructural development deployed by the current administration of Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem Age inform of renovation of existing buildings on campus and the staff quarter, opening and ongoing construction of the shortest road to the main campus, deployment of e-learning equipment and e-library and establishment of the School Laboratory amongst others.
The School of Preliminary Studies is primarily opened to applicants from catchment areas of the University of Ilorin (i.e Benue, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto and Zamfara States) and by extension, to all Nigerians. It offers admission into forty-three (43) programmes in eight (8) facilities of the university including faculty of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Agriculture, Communication and Information Sciences, Environment Sciences, Arts, Social Science and Education. In line with the Strategic Plan of the University, it is envisaged that the School will contribute to the provision of community service and stimulation of development in the immediate communities’ thereby engendering interaction between town and gown.
