Historical Background

Coordination of research activities in the University is handled by the Centre for Research, Development and In-house Training (CREDIT) under the supervision of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Research Technology and Innovation (DVC-RTI) who serves as the Chairman of its Board. The Centre was established following an approval by the University of Ilorin Senate at its 193^rd Special Meeting of 20th June, 2008. The purpose of the Centre is to promote excellence in research, development and training that will enhance optimum performance of the University’s staff and students in its bid to attain a world-class status.

About Us
CREDIT works towards the actualization of the goals and aspirations of the University of Ilorin through continuously striving to achieve and maintain the culture of excellence for which the institution is well known. The Centre performs the following activities to achieve its vision and mission.

1. Formulation of new research policies and periodic review of existing ones in line with international best practices and subject to the approval of the University Administration.
2. Processing of research proposals submitted to the Central Research Committee (CRC) for peer review to improve their quality.
3. Approval and monitoring of utilization of research funds from the Senate Research Grant and other available grants.
4. Sourcing for and disseminating information on research grants and fellowships.
5. Attracting research grants from outside the University and outside the country.
6. Encouragement of the establishment of research niche areas in all Faculties in the University.
7. Encouragement and overseeing of research fairs and exhibitions.
8. Coordination of research discoveries and inventions
9. Maintaining a list of experts in the various disciplines from national and international sources and remunerating them for academic services provided to the University
10. Implementation of existing agreements between the University of Ilorin and other institutions of higher education or other bodies relating to research.
11. Cooperating with other national and international research centres.
12. Organization of seminars and workshops for staff empowerment.
13. Creation of a database for research grant awardees to monitor individual researcher’s progress according to approved timeline.
