World Radio Day: UNILORIN FM scaling high among peers-Idris Alooma

The Station Manager of UNILORIN 89. FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), has said that the station has been doing well in fulfilling its core mandates.

The ace broadcaster ststed this while featuring on Table Talk, a current affairs programme of UNILORIN FM last Tuesday (February 13, 2024). The special edition of the programme, which was held to mark this year’s “World Radio Day”, was anchored by the duo of Mr Tunde Agboola and Miss Goodness Udehen.

 The Station Manager commended the administration of Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, for establishing radio the station in 2009.

The renowned journalist said that  radio broadcast started with the voice of Reginald Fesseden who made the first broadcast on December 25, 1906. 

 He went further to explain how the British government brought radio broadcasting to Africa, particularly Nigeria in 1933 to keep Africans abreast of happenings on the world war.

 Mr Ibrahim said that the former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi  Babangida’s  deregulation   of electronic media in 1992 and how the University of Lagos secured first licence to own a  campus radio in 2002 that paved the way for  institutions of higher learning to own and operate radio stations rin Nigeria.

Mr Ibrahim urged broadcasters to continue to  use radio as a veritable tool of uniting the nation, promoting peace and heralding virtues.

He added that since the establishment of UNILORIN FM 89.3 radio, it has been doing great in promoting functional education, training of students, assisting the University in national and international ranking, research and community service

Mr Ibrahim, who is a well-known Yoruba poet, said that in a few months time the station will be marking its 15 years of glorious excellence in broadcasting, which will be marked with a lot of scintillating programmes.

 Mr Ibrahim assured that the station would continue to partner with all stakeholders in the areas of quality programming, development and innovations

 The UNESCO award winner, while thanking the Vice Chancellor of the Better by Far University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, also thanked the Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the staff of the radio station and other stakeholders for their support, advice and love, which propelled the station higher among its peers.
