Works Department fetes retirees, holds end-of-year party
Staff members of the Electrical Section, Works Department, University of Ilorin, penultimate Friday (December 22,2023) organised a send-forth in honour of some of their retired colleagues.
The retired staff honoured included the immediate past Director of Works, Engr. A M. Abisoye, the Senior Workshop Supervisor, Mr Peter Solomon; the Principal Supervisor, Mr Williams Oluyomi; the Senior Supervisor, Mr Solomon B. Aremu; and the Works Superintendent, Mr Segun Aina.
Others were the Works Superintendent, Mr Kalu O.Kalu and the Principal Technical Officer, Mr Mohammed O. Isiaka.
In his remarks, the Director of Works, Mr Rahman Kolawole Amao, congratulated all the retirees as he also thanked God for their lives, noting that they are retired but not tired”.
Mr Amao said that he rejoiced with the retired officials because “you are still waxing stronger and stronger”.
He noted that their retirement was as a result of their attainment of the statutory age as he prayed God to continue to preserve their lives to enable them reap the fruits of their labour.
The Director also urged other staff members of the University to continue to do their best by being committed and dedicated in order for them to be celebrated like this in the nearest future.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman, Electrical Association, University of Ilorin ,Mr. Bankole Michael, added that members of staff of the Electrical Unit assembled to honour their colleagues as they embarked on the new journey because of the enormous contributions they offered towards the progress of the University.
Also speaking, the Deputy Director, Works, Engr. J. S. Adebayo, described Works Department as a very unique unit , stressing that its operations cut across all units and departments in the University.
While noting that he met the programme as an annual event, he promised to sustain it.
He also called on other units and departments of the University to always organise that kind of event in order to encourage friendship and cooperation.
The highlight of the event included the presentation of gifts to the retirees in appreciation and recognition of their contributions to the development of the unit and the University in general.
The occasion was attended by staff members of the University and their well-wishers from all walks of life.
