Why we chose UNILORIN-New students
Fresh students of the University of Ilorin have expressed profound happiness with their admissions to pursue one field of learning or the other at the nation’s most sought-after University.
A cross section of the new students stated this while fielding questions from UNILORIN BULLETIN last Monday (January 8, 2024) at their various Departments and Faculties.
The students, who hail from various states of the federation, also expressed satisfaction with the arrangement put in place by the authorities of the institution to facilitate smooth registration, conducive learning environment and enjoyable sojourn on the University campus.
Some of the students interviewed gave various reasons for their decisions to come to the University of Ilorin instead of going to other universities.
Many of them explained that their decisions were informed by the fact that they were sure of receiving high quality academic and professional tutelage at the University as others said that they chose the University of Ilorin because they were convinced that they would graduate as at when due.
Miss Abdulkareem Adamat of the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, said that she was happy to be a student of the University of ilorin due to its consistent academic programmes and its slogan of Better By Far.
Mr Fareed Sheikh Ayinla of the Department of Educational Management, said that his happiness knew no boundt when he was eventually offered admission into the University of Ilorin.
He explained that the decision of his father that he would not attend any other institution of higher learning aside the University of Ilorin kept him at home for years, saying that his eventual success at gaining admission into the University was the happiest moment so far in his life.
To Mr Abass Abdulkareem of the Department of Quantity Surveying, his choice of the University of Ilorin was informed by the fact that it is one of the best institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
He added that his decision was also premised on the fact that most of his brothers who are recording astonishing achievements in their working careers attended the University of Ilorin.
On his part, Mr Ishola Tolulope of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management explained that he cherished the University of Ilorin because of the personal love he has for the University and also for the numerous achievements many of its alumni have recorded.
Also Speaking, Miss Ogunyemi Nafisat of the Department of Library and Information Science, disclosed that she chose University of Ilorin because her parents were convinced of the high standard of learning obtainable at the University, noting that her other siblings were alumni of the University.
She added that she owed it as a duty to succeed in the programme and also leave worthy legacies to those coming behind.
Mr Abdulsalam Lawal of Medicine and Surgery at the institution’s College of Health Sciences, said that he applied to study at the University of Ilorin because it is one of the best institutions in Nigeria where young men and women can obtain adequate learning for personal and general development.
He added that his interest in the University was also propelled by the fact that the institution produced his mother while his sister is also on the verge of concluding her training at the University. He explained that the duo always fascinated him with the stories of good quality service delivery at the University and the fact that anyone who wanted to graduate in record time needed to come to the University of Ilorin, which has no attraction for any form of distraction.
Mr Lawal also explained that his decision was also buoyed by the fact that the University also has the record of producing world-class medical practitioners.
A student of the Department of Criminology, Mr Oluwayimika Timothy, explained that before he gained admission into the University, he went through some research on different universities and found out that the University of Ilorin offers Criminology, which has been his preferred course of study and the fact that the distance of the University campus to his residence is short as would be able to shuttle conveniently between the campus and his residence.
To Mr Abdulsamad Oladimeji Imam of the Faculty of Law, his admission into the University was a dream come true to him and his family members.
He explained that right from his childhood he had always wanted to study at the University of Ilorin because of all the positive stories he had heard about the University.
Mr Imam explained that he was also motivated to apply to the University of Ilorin to study law because of its fascinating history of producing outstanding legal practitioners as he felt that his attendance of the University would eventually make him a good lawyer.
He added that he could not have accepted any other offer of admission except into the University of Ilorin.
Also speaking, Mr Musa Abdulfatah of the Department of Microbiology explained that his admission into the University was like an adherence to a family heritage.
He explained that his parents are products of the University and that his admission was keeping to the tradition of ensuring that every member of his family takes advantage of the high quality of service delivery available at the University of Ilorin.
Mr Ajao Sikiru Ishola of the Department of Sociology said that he decided to choose the University of Ilorin because it is the most sought after institution in Nigeria by admission seekers.
He said he also considered the security situations of the country, stating that Kwara State is a peaceful state and that the University of Ilorin has always been free of cultism and other forms of crisis.
Miss Eniola Akinola of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science,said that she chose the University because of its alluring reputation.
She added that she has been feeling very proud to be a student of the University since she was admitted.
Miss Eniola pointed out that her admission would also be making her join other family members of her to also become a UNILORITE.
On her part, Miss Suliyat Omotolani Musa of the Department of Library and Information Science, explained that she chose the University because it has been a very good institution of higher learning. She added that she also chose the University because some of her brothers and acquaintances also earned their degrees from the University.
Mr Isreal Olukunle of the Department of Telecommunication Science opined that his choice of the University as the institution where he would pursue his degree was based on the fact that the University has been known for peace and tranquility among its peers.
Miss Mercy Adelola of the Department of Optometry said that she chose the University because she is simply in love with the institution because of the peace it has enjoyed over the years, adding that many of her secondary school mates also chose the University because of its fame.
