We need your support, CILS Director tells IEDPU

The Director, Centre for Iloriin Studies (CILS), University of Ilorin, Prof. Issa Olanrongbe Sanusi, has enjoined the Iloriin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) and the generality of the people of Ilorin Emirate to support the Centre towards achieving its corporate objectives.

Prof. Sanusi made this appeal penultimate Saturday (February 10,2024) when he led a delegation of senior staff members of the Centre on a courtesy visit to the National President and members of the National Executive Council of the Union at its national secretariat, Geri Alimi, Ilorin.

The Director explained that the CILS, which was established in 2012 by the administration of of Prof. I’shaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, has the mandate of studying, preserving, projecting and propagating the heritage of Ilorin Emirate and its neighbours.

Prof. Sanusi, who is the fifth Director of the CILS, said that the Centre and the management of the University believed that the IEDPU, being the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the people of Ilorin Emirate, has a lot of role to play in ensuring that the CILS achieves the vision of its founding fathers.

He, therefore, solicited for financial, material and moral support from the Union as he urged the Union to also help it encourage the people of Ilorin Emirate to extend all forms of support to the CILS as similar institutions enjoyed from their host communities.

He assured the leadership and members of the Union that the envisaged assistance would be judiciously used.

Responding, the National President of the Union, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, thanked the Director and members of his entourage for the visit.

Alhaji Abdulmalik, who is also an alumnus of the University, described the Director as a humble, responsible and industrious patriot that he has known for decades.

The IEDPU President assured Prof. Sanusi that the Union would respond  positively and within its capacity to the request placed before it.

The Director was accompanied on the visit by Dr Modupe Abdulkadir, Mr Abdulhameed Jimba,Mr Suleiman Ismail, Mr Abdulkareem Kuti and Mr Usman Abdulfatai Abolaji.
