UNILORIN shines at Climate Risk Research Challenge.

The University of Ilorin was penultimate Friday (January 5, 2024) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, announced as the runner-up at the National Climate Risk Research Challenge, which attracted the participation of 13 universities from allover Nigeria. The announcement was the highlight of the just concluded COP 28 Conference on climate change hosted by the United Arab Emirates.

The University of Ilorin Team A secured an impressive 2nd position in the challenge consequent upon the showcasing of its expertise and commitment towards tackling climate change.

The “Team UNILORIN”, did not only secure the 2nd prize of $3,500 but  it will also have access to Amazon AWS cloud for the University.

The winning team comprised both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University’s Faculty of Agriculture under the, guardianship of Prof. Fatimo A. Adekola of the Department of Agronomy, Prof. A. A. Adeyina of the Department of Animal Production and Dr. O. A. Ojumoola of the Department of Crop Protection.

However, the star prize of $5,000 was awarded to DEWSClim Innovator and the 3rd prize went to Apex team both of the University of Ibadan.

Reacting to the achievement, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Prof. Oluyemisi B. Fawole, expressed her delight as she also highlighted the institutions’ commitment to making global impact.

The Dean assured that the Faculty would continue to actively position the University of Ilorin on the global map and contribute towards the achievement of the institution’s corporate objectives.

Other universities that participated in the contest included Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; Bauchi State University of Science & Technology, Bayero University, Kano; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Federal University of Technology, Port-Harcourt, Kano State University of Science & Technology, Kwara State University, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture; the  University of Maximegalon, University of  Lagos and The University of Uyo.
