UNILORIN set to turn culture to goldmine – Ogunade

The Drector, Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, University of Ilorin, Prof. Raymond Ogunade, has said that the University is set to turn cultural heritage to goldmine with the establishment of the Centre.

Prof. Ogunade, who is the pioneer Director of the Centre, disclosed this while featuring on a pupolar Yoruba Programme, ”Oro to n lo”, on UNILORIN 89. 3 FM, the official radio station of the University. The programme was anchored by the Head of the Station, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahiim (Alooma).

The don assured the public that all courses related to culture will be available for studying at  the Centre.  He advised that   interested candidates should  visit the University website for more information.

Prof. Ogunade also pointed out that the Centre would run   Cultural Studies, Creative Arts or Economy, Museum and Archive Studies, among others.

 He added that the Centre would also offer Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and doctorate degree programmes, among others.

The University don noted that these programmes would include practical and teaching knowledge in the classroom, which will prepare graduates of the programmes for self-employment.

Prof Ogunade stressed further that there are some new products that they wanted to unveil online, noting that they will be accessed on the University website while there are adequate security measures to guard such products. These include drones for surveillance and many others.

The Director thanked the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for his unalloyed support to the Centre, saying that it enabled them to get a solid foundation.

He, however, warned that Nigerians should desist from emulating other people’s culture, all in the name of civilisation and modernisation but rather value and promote their own cultures because it has turned to a  lucrative business now.

The Professor of Religions also advised that Nigerians should be conscious of their actions by fearing Almighty God, irrespective of their religious affiliation.
