UNILORIN Security arrests vandals

A syndicate, which specialises in the vandalisation and theft of electric cables, has been arrested at the Junior Staff Quarters located at Jalala by the men of the Security Division of the University of Ilorin.

This  was disclosed by the University’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Abdulwasiu Oloruntoba Oyewo,while speaking with UNILORIN BULLETIN in his office last  Tuesday (October 31, 2023).

Mr Oyewo explained that the suspects  were arrested while committing the act, which would have thrown residents of the Quarters to perpetual blackout.

He explained that the  gang comprised of nine individuals who were arrested with various implements including wire cutters and pliers.

Mr Oyewo,who is an Assistant Director, thanked the management of the University for the support given to the Security Division to ensure that the University environment is kept safe for teaching and learning as well as research.

The Chief Security Officer urged the management to ensure adequate vegetation control and provide state-of-the-art equipment for his men to work with, saying that all hands needed to be on deck in order to combat threat to lives and property of members of the University community.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.

Corroborating the Chief Security Officer, a senior personnel of the UNILORIN  Security Division, Mrs Kafayat Lawal, thanked the residents of the Quarters for their vigilance and support,   which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Mrs Lawal called on the management of the University to use the existing cordial relationship between the institution and security agencies to ensure that scavengers at the University are relocated.
