UNILORIN Preliminary School admits 496 students

The School of Preliminary Studies (SPS), University of Ilorin, has admitted no fewer than 496 Students for the 2023/2024 session.

The Director of the School,  Prof. S. A. Aderibigbe, who disclosed this last Tuesday (February 13, 2024) while speaking at the 2023/2024 orientation programme of the school held at its main hall, however, said that spaces are still available for interested candidates.

In his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, congratulated the students on their admissions as he urged them to take their studies seriously to enable them join other University students at the main campus.

Prof. Omotesho reminded them of the dos and donts of the School, which is not different from the general rules of the University.

He said, “Your being here is just a transit to the main campus”, adding that with the opportunity availed, it is sure for you to get admission, if you pass, to the main campus.

Prof. Omotesho advised them to always remember the children of who they are and put in their best to achieve their dreams of gaining admission.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Sulaiman Funsho Ambali,  reminded them of the efforts of their parents in making sure that they get into the University.

He urged them not to see the school as a relaxation centre but as a place for serious academic work  where they can achieve excellently.

In his message, the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, urged the students not to join bad groups, stressing that the University of Ilorin would frown at  violation of  laid down rules.

Mr Alfanla congratulated the students and their parents for choosing the University remedial programme as a foundation for their university education.

The Ag. Bursar, Mr Oba AbdulBarki, advised them not to spend anyhow, especially money meant for their school fees as he encouraged them to always be prudent in spending.

            The University Librarian, Dr Kamal Tunde Omopupa, explained that the library services are open to them 24/7 for their use, alerting that their regular use of the library will further assist them in their academic pursuit and will also broaden their scope before joining the main campus of the University.

In his remarks, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Musa Toyin Yakubu,  welcomed the students to the  school, which he said would guarantee their admission into the main campus of the University.

He advised them to pay adequate attention to the dress codes of the University as it leaves nobody out, adding that the punishment is always severe.

In their separate remarks, the Chief Security Officer of the University and the Diviional Police Officer, Fufu, charged the students to be cautious of where they go and who they follow.

They said that with zero tolerance for cultism, hooliganism, and other social vices, the University and the Police are working together as a team to make sure none of them is found wanting.

On his part, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Rasheed Odunola, urged the students to take good care of their health, adding that whenever they are ill they should go to the school clinic and avoid self-medication.

The Daudu of  Fufu, Alhaji Babatunde Muazu Alege, appreciated the efforts of the University management, especially the grading of the road and their support in securing the community.
