It was ecomiums galore penultimate Friday (December 15, 2023) as staff members of the University of Ilorin Library organised a send-forth in honour of the immediate past University Librarian, Prof. Abdulwahab Olanrewaju Issa; the former Deputy University Librarian, Dr Evelyn Olakitan Akinboro and Chief Portal, Mr Mumini Bolaji Sidiq.

The three were celebrated for exceptional performances and immense contributions to the growth and development of the University Library and humanity.

Speaking at the event, which took place  at the University Lakeside Resort, the University  Librarian, Dr. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa,  thanked his predecessor for the fascinating legacies he bequeathed to the University Library

He explained that the impact of Prof. Issa was not limited to the extension of the building housing the University Library but for also enriching the library with high quality books and materials.

Dr Omupopa, who described Prof. Issa as his leader and mentor, stressed further that the former University Librarian bequeathed to him dedicated and benevolent staff who are always mindful of their responsibilities.

He also thanked the University management for its unwavering support to him, which enabled him to do the little he has been doing since he assumed the position.

Dr Omopupa assured that he would continue to do his best to ensure that the University Library discharges its responsibilities to the fullest.

On her part, the Head of E-Library, Mrs. Adebisi Adesina,  described Prof. Issa as a true leader who was neither tribalistic nor fanatical in his dealings with  his fellow human beings.

Speaking on the former Deputy Librarian, Mrs Adesina described her as a mother and a pillar to all as she equally described Mr Sidiq as a very hard working and humble man.

Also speaking, the  Head of Technical Services Division of the Library, who is also the Chairman of the Ceremonial Committee, Dr T A B Abdusalaam, acknowledged the  impact of Prof. Issa on her life, particularly as regards her pursuit of her Ph.D, noting that he always wants to bring out the best in whoever is ready to work with him.
