UNILORIN empowers IT staff with specialised training

In a groundbreaking initiative, the Centre for Research, Development, and In-House Training (CREDIT), University of Ilorin, in collaboration with the Computer Services and Information Technology Unit (COMSIT), penultimate Wednesday (January 3, 2023), organised an intensive training sessions for the IT Officers of various Faculties of the University.

The focus of the training, held at the Hall F of the University’s CBT Centre, was to familiarise the participants with the operations of the University’s recently launched enterprise portal.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, lauded the collaborative efforts between the CREDIT and COMSIT in spearheading the training initiative.

 Emphasising the importance of always acquiring necessary skills, Prof. Omotesho urged participants to take full advantage of the training in order to effectively navigate the new enterprise portal.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the University’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology solutions for both students and staff.

Prof. Omotesho noted that the training session marked a significant step towards realising the vision of a technologically empowered and globally competitive University of Ilorin.

The Director of COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed  Gbenga Jimoh, stressed the necessity of training all IT Officers across the University’s faculties.

 While commending CREDIT for the training, Prof. Jimoh emphasised the goal of creating a robust and skilled IT team capable of building an information and communication technology (ICT) driven academic environment.

 He further pointed out that the collaborative effort between CREDIT and COMSIT reflects the University’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements and ensuring that both its staff and students are well-equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital academic landscape.

Prof. Jimoh submitted that the initiative was in line with the University’s new ICT Policy and Strategic Plan, which is aimed at elevating the University of Ilorin to the forefront of technological innovation in the academic realm.

The Ag. Director of CREDIT, Dr Abdulkarim Oloyede, highlighted the Centre’s overarching goal of promoting excellence in research, development and training.

He expressed optimism that the training will empower the IT staff to become not just operators, but active contributors to the success of the new portal.

Dr Oloyede also underscored the significance of enhancing the performance of the University’s staff and students as part of the institution’s pursuit of achieving a world-class status.
