Two UNILORIN Agric students get Indorama’s financial awards

Two female students of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin,Ganiyat Kikelomo Jamiu and Onize Ummilkhair Abdulkareem, have been rewarded with financial awards by the Indorama Corporation, maker of Indorama Fertilizer, after they were adjudged as  outstanding in academic performance in  Farm Practical Training (FPT) .

Speaking with UNILORIN BULLETIN last Monday (January 8, 2023) after a presentation at the Faculty of Agriculture Lecture Theater (AGLT) by  the Company’s representative, Mr Kunle Babajide David, the Dean, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole said that the award is a truly momentous occasion organised to recognise the exceptional achievements of the two remarkable female students of the Faculty.

While appreciating the Company for its unwavering commitment to education and for investing in the dreams and aspirations of Nigerian students, the Dean stated that the company’s generousity and belief in nurturing talent are truly commendable.

Congratulating the recipients, the Dean said, “Your hard work, determination, and passion for Agricultural Sciences have not gone unnoticed. You have proven that excellence knows no boundaries, and your achievements serve as an inspiration to your peers and future generations of students’’.         ‘‘Today’s event is to underscores the importance of forging strong partnerships that contribute to the growth and development of our students and the agricultural sector as a whole”, she added.

In a chat with UNILORIN BULLETIN, the representative of Indorama Corporation, Mr David said that the essence of the awards is to give back to the University of Ilorin for its promotion of Agriculture academic.

“What brought us to the University of Ilorin is to give out awards of excellence to the best female students in the Faculty of Agriculture. We picked universities across the country as part of our giving back to Nigerian society because we want to encourage the students in Agriculture to put more effort. It is a way of telling the students that there is a prospect in Agriculture and to tell them to put more efforts into their studies.  They also need to know that their stay is not by chance. They are learning Agriculture by choice so that at least they will be fully baked”, he added. 

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, represented by Sub Dean, Student Affairs (Permanent Site), Dr Muhammad Kabir Graba, said that the University of Ilorin is happy with the gesture and hoped it will be a continuous opportunity for the students of the faculty.

He therefore urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of it as many students are looking forward to such gesture.
