Serve yourself well, ex-Unilorin Registrar urges retired staff

As 36 staff members of the Works Department, University of Ilorin, bow out from the services of the institution, a former Registrar of the University, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, has advised the retiring staff  to make effective use of their pension fund to take good care of themselves   in order to live happy and healthy life after retirement.

Mr Obafemi gave the advice last Wednesday (March 6, 2024) while speaking at the Works Department Annual Get together and Sendforth in appreciation of their  contributions. The event took place at the University’s Main Auditorium.

The former Registrar said that those who bow out from the services of the University have contributed immensely to the progress of humanity , saying that their retirement would afford them the privilege of serving themselves.

In his presentation titled “Life In  Retirement”, Mr Obafemi outlined tips on how to live a healthy life after retirement, which he said included moving closer to God by engaging in fervent prayers for sound health, not engaging in  long term projects; meeting with old friends; avoiding unnecessary accidents at old age; engaging in exercise; investing more in your health by taking good medication; taking enough rest; eating good balanced diets and watching out for your diets to avoid unnecessary spending after retirement.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the  Director of Works, Mr AbdulRahman Kolawole Amao, stated that the event was the second gathering of this type in the history of the Works Department.

            He acknowledged the unflinching support  of  the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, which he said, has been driving the Works Department to  greater heights.

He also appreciated the contribution of his predecessor, Engr. Abisoye and promised to  continue to sustain the good legacy he left behind.

In his goodwill message, the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, commended Engr. Abisoye, who he described as ‘Mr Fix-it’,  and  other retirees for their contributions to the development of the University.

Mr Akogun urged them to try and live their lives with full excitement and make themselves happy.

Responding on behalf of the other retirees, the former Director of Works, University of Ilorin, Engr Mudashiru Abisoye, expressed his profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for keeping them alive to witness their retirement celebration.

            He appreciated the support of the University management and the contributions of every  staff member of the Works Department who considered them worthy of being celebrated.

Mr Abisoye advised leaders not to see any position they occupy as permanent, and imbibe the spirit of fearing Almighty Allah in dealing with their staff.

The occasion was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali; the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research Technology and Innovation (RTI), Prof Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, among others.
