Oba Abdulbarki named Ag.Bursar

A Deputy Bursar and Head of the Finance Unit, Institute of Education, University of Ilorin, Mr Abdulbarki Oba, has been appointed as Ag. Bursar of the University.

The appointment of the versatile financial technocrat is contained in a letter addressed to him dated October 23, 2023 and signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN BULLETIN.

Mr Alfanla explained that the appointment took effect from last Wednesday (November 1, 2023).

This development, according to the letter, is sequel to the completion of the tenure of Mr Hakeem Olalekan Sonde on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Mr Oba, a critical-minded professional, is a Chartered Accountant.

After his NYSC with NNPC, he had a stint in the solid minerals industry before joining the services of the University of Ilorin as an Accountant I in March 1999. He rose to the position of a Deputy Bursar in 2016

A 1994 graduate of Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Mr Oba has cut a niche for himself in the Public Financial Management space with his involvement in managing the present and creating the future at UNILORIN. His forte includes infinite patience and precise attention to details

He has headed the Ledger & Final Accounts (2006 – 2011 and 2012 – 2015); Salaries, Loans & Advances (2011 – 2012); Finance Controller, College of Health Sciences (2015- 2017); Treasury from 2017 to 2020    .                                                           Mr Oba, who taught Management Accounting at ICAN/NNDC Study Centre, Ilorin between 2011 and 2013, is a resource person with the Centre for Research, Development and In-house Training (CREDIT), UNILORIN. He has served on numerous committees of the University, including the UNILORIN Strategic Plan Review Committee; and the UNILORIN Committee on IGR.

Addressing members of staff of the Bursary Unit last Wednesday (November 2, 2023), the Ag. Bursar called for hard work, unity and cooperation in order to ensure effective service delivery.

Mr Oba, who remarked that he remained their colleagues in the services of the University, assured them that his doors would be opened for advice to ensure operational efficiency.
