Mokuolu elected Co-Chair of global anti-Malaria coalition

University of Ilorin’s Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health, Olugbenga Mokuolu, has been elected Co-Chair of Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership  Case Management Working Group, a global platform for coordinated action against Malaria.

 Prof. Mokuolu, who was elected with 60.8% of the votes, will co-chair the organisation together with Mrs Noella Umulisa, a Rwandan. He succeeds American Dr Larry Barat, who just served out his two terms.

 A statement issued from  Swiss TPH, Switzerland by RBM Case Management Working Group Coordinator Konstantina Boutsika, said that 148 members with voting rights out of 357 participated in the ballotting.

 Pointing out that “this corresponds to a response rate of 42%,” Boutsika said, “We would like to thank everyone for their participation.”

  The elections, which involved filling out a prepared questionnaire, were open between December 5, 2023 and January 8, 2024.

 Meanwhile,  the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congestulated Prof. Mokuolu on his election, describing it as “monumental”.

 In a statement by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor commended Prof. Mokuolu “for always bringing glory and honours to the University”.

 Prof. Egbewole, who described the renowned Professor and Consultant Paediatrician as “a great pride of the University”, urged him not to rest on his oars.

 Also, a former Kwara State First Lady and Founder of the Wellbeing Foundation, Mrs Toyin Saraki, has commended Prof Mokuolu on his election.

 Mrs Saraki, in a congratulatory message sent to the renowned academic, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN BULLETIN, said that she was impressed with the consistent positive contributions and fascinating accomplishments of Prof. Mukouolu in the global fight against malaria.

The former First Lady said that she was certain that Prof. Mokuolu’s leadership will strengthen the vision and action of the Partnership.

 Mrs Saraki, who described Prof. Mukuolu as a pride to the University of Ilorin  and Nigeria, added that his dedication and expertise will undoubtedly steer the Group to greater heights.
