Let’s mould junior colleagues, Adeyemi urges senior academics

The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Prof. Olalere Adeyemi, has called on senior members of the institution’s academic community to always offer adequate and qualitative and timely support and  mentorship to thief colleagues, particularly incoming ones in order to replicate themselves in the younger ones.

The Dean made this call last Tuesday (January 16, 2024) while speaking at the inauguration of the Faculty’s Mentoring Committee at his office.

Prof. Adeyemi said that it was important for the elders to prepare the younger ones for the tasks ahead for the University to be peopled by distinguished and thoroughly-baked academics who would ensure that the University remains the nation’s most sought-after.

The Dean appreciated the support of the Chairman and members of the Committee not only to him and the Faculty but also to the Vice Chancellor and the management of the University.

He explained that the terms of reference of the Committee include the provision of mentorship to both the junior and senior staff members as it affects career progression, research output and work ethics, among others.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf, thanked the Dean and management of the Faculty for tasking him and his colleagues with the mentorship of staff of the Faculty.

Prof. Yusuf, who is also a one-time Dean of the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, assured that the Committee would do its best so that the Faculty would continue to deliver high quality services and remain a pride to the University and its stakeholders.

The Committee, which subsequently held its inaugural meeting,comprises of Prof. Ronke Olademo, Prof. Gbenga Fakuade, Prof. Sam Aghalino, Prof. Issa Olanrongbe Sanusi and Prof. Solomon Ikibe, who would serve as its Secretary.
