Let’s celebrate UNILORIN outstanding graduates more-Abdulsalam

The Deputy Director, Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SWIES) Unit, University of Ilorin, Mr Kola Suleiman Abdulsalam, has implored the authorities of the institution to devise more means of encouraging academic excellence among the students of the University.

Mr Abdulsalam gave this advice last Wednesday (April 3, 2024) while speaking to UNILORIN BULLETIN in his office.

The senior administrator explained that, while the existing system of rewarding academic excellence among students is good and commendable, more is needed to be done for all the students of the University to give more focus to their studies.

Mr Abdulsalam said that apart from the huge cash gifts and other materials, which the best graduating student is often bestowed with, the display of the portrait,  as well as final result of such an individual at strategic locations on campus would definitely go a long way in encouraging those coming behind to pursue academic excellence in order for them to also deserve the honour.

The Deputy Director, who is a 1986 graduate of the Better By University, said that since there is no individual who wouldn’t love to be celebrated most especially by the University, the implementation of the suggestion would be a morale booster.

Mr Abdulsalam added that the portrait of the most outstanding graduate of the year should be displayed from the date of his convocation till the following one at places like the University Fountain, the Main Gate, the Motor Park, the Main Library and the Main Auditorium as well as at the various Faculties.

He pointed out that when others, particularly new students, see the portrait across the campus, they would certainly be motivated to work harder to deserve such celebrations.
