Egbewole greets UNILORIN Muslims on Ramadan

As the Muslims all over the world commence this year’s Ramadan fast today, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has felicitated with members of the institution’s Muslim community for witnessing another Ramadan fast.

Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the Institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that living to witness and participate in another Ramadan fast is a great privilege that should not be taken for granted.

The Vice Chancellor explained that the Ramadan season, which is usually characterised by devotion, fraternity, sacrifice, compassion, generousity and piety, is a great and extraordinary period in the annual calendar of every Muslim family and community.

Prof. Egbewole, who specifically congratulated the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Muslim community, Prof. Mudathir O. Yusuf, and the Chief Imam of the institution’s Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir Abdussalaam, as well as the generality of Muslim staff and students of the University on the occasion of the commencement of the Ramadan fast, enjoined them to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by the “one-month spiritual exercise” to redirect their lives towards greater services to Allah and humanity.

He urged Muslims, particularly those of the University, to ensure an effective participation in the fast as he urged them to also use the opportunity provided by the sacred season to inculcate and adhere strictly to the dictates of their faith.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), enjoined Muslims to use the period to get themselves more acquainted with the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad for the nation to witness positive all-round transformation.

The renowned legal luminary implored privileged Muslims to also use the opportunity of the fasting season to reach out to their less privileged compatriots, saying that doing so, particularly in the month of Ramadan, is extremely rewarding.

He assured the staff and students of the nation’s most sought-after University that his administration would continue to do everything within its capacities to ensure that life becomes more abundant for them as he also urged them to continue to discharge their duties as expected for them to earn divine blessings.

Prof. Egbewole wished all Muslims and other members of the University community a very peaceful and rewarding Ramadan.
