Egbewole expresses confidence in UNILORIN graduates

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasuoo Egebwole, SAN, has expressed his conviction in the capacities of graduates of the University, particularly those of its Optometry, to excel in the real world.

Prof. Egbewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, disclosed this last Tuesday ( December 19, 2023) at the 3rd Oath-taking and Induction Ceremony of the 2021/2022 Optometry graduates of the University held at the Main Auditorium.

 The Vice Chancellor, who is the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities(AWAU), said that products of the University are well tutored and mannered to discharge their responsibilities to the fullest.

 “As we celebrate the induction of our third set of Optometry graduates today, I want to express my confidence in every one of you”,  Prof. Egbewole said, adding, “You  have chosen a noble profession, one that holds the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of many”.        The Vice Chancellor urged them “to embrace this great responsibility with humility, compassion, and a commitment to excellence”. He also urged them to always remember to be good ambassadors of the University of Ilorin”.

 Prof. Egbewole added that the  graduation of the students marked a significant milestone in life as it signified the completion of their training and education in the field of Optometry.

The Vice Chancellor said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the graduates. Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance have culminated in this momentous achievement. Today, we not only celebrate your academic success but also transition to become a healthcare professional who will positively impact the lives of countless individuals during the practice of your chosen profession”.

The renowned legal luminary said that the demand for Optometric services continues to grow, with an increasing number of people seeking vision care, which presents both a challenge and an opportunity “for you”, our graduates.

 “It is a challenge because you will face diverse and complex conditions, and it is an opportunity because you have the knowledge, skills, and compassion to make a difference in the lives of those who seek your expertise”, he said.

In her welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Patricia F. Omojasola, said that she was happy about the accomplishment.

While acknowledging all for the support, the Dean said, “Today marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. You have successfully navigated through a challenging curriculum, honed your skills, and emerged as professionals ready to make a significant impact in the field of Optometry.”

 Prof. Omojasola said, “Your teachers have worked tirelessly to provide you with a comprehensive education that blends theoretical notions with practical experiences. Today, as you endure your professional journey, we have every confidence in your ability to apply your skills with compassion, integrity, and professionalism. In your career as an optometrist, you will encounter a diverse range of patients, each with conditions that would require your intervention. I urge you to approach each interaction with empathy and understanding, treating every patient with the utmost respect. Your goal should be to improve their vision and promote ocular wellness ultimately, enhancing their quality of life and productivity”.

 Highlights of the occasion included the presentation of awards and prizes to the best outstanding graduands.

 The event was witnessed by dignitaries from far and near including parents, guardians, friends and associates of the graduates.
