Egbewole charges new UNILORIN Vet. Doctors to be compassionate

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has implored the newly inducted Veterinary Medicine graduates of the University to be compassionate in  the discharge of their professional responsibilities.

Prof. Egbewole gave the advice last Wednesday (October 25, 2023) at the 5th induction/oath-taking ceremony for the 29 new graduands of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University Auditorium.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that graduands should provide adequate medical and clinical care to animals with compassion and respect for animal welfare in equal or more proportion given to human patients.

Prof. Egbewole, who congratulated the new veterinary doctors on the successful completion of their training at the University, encouraged them to be professional and exhibit goodwill in all their doings

The Vice Chancellor also reminded the graduands of the seriousness of the oath they took,  stressing that they are expected to be good ambassadors of the profession and of the University.

In his presentation, the Keynote Speaker, Dr Olatunde Aiyedun Agbato, who spoke on ”From Healing Hooves to Healthy Harvest”,told the inductees that veterinarians must work towards building an enduring monument from their careers.

Dr Olatunde said, ”We can make a difference no matter where we find ourselves. We should start from where we are and work progressively on our careers”.

In her remarks, the President, Veterinary Council of Nigeria AIG AIshatu Abubakar Buju, who was represented by Prof. Mathew Adamu, advised the  inductees to stay sharp and focussed throughout their  professional journey.

She charged them not to relent in their quest to continue to gather more knowledge, which, she said, would boost their grasp of the profession.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin, Prof. Oyebisi Mistura Azeez, congratulated the inductees for blazing the trail to achieve success despite the numerous challenges they might have encountered in the course of  their studies.

Prof. Azeez urged the graduands to serve as shining examples of products of the Faculty at all times in the society as she urged them to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession.

The Dean thanked the Vice Chancellor for making funds and facilities as well as equipment available for the training of the students of the Faculty. She also congratulated her colleagues for all the hard work and dedication towards training of the students while thanking all the staff and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for making the occasion a great success.

Present at the ceremony were the penultimate Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services) Prof. Sulieman Funsho Ambali; the Bursar, Mr Hakeem Sonde; the University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Omopupa, and the Ceremonial Committee Chairman, Prof. Adegboyega Fawole, among others.
