CIS students embark on cleanliness campaign

Students of the Faculty of Communication and Information Science, University of Ilorin  penultimate Thursday (February 29, 2024) embarked on an annual cleanliness Campaign dedicated to enhancing and advocating for a cleaner university environment.

The  exercise, which was themed “Dump Don’t Drop”, was conducted within and around the Faculty premises.

The exercise gave the Faculty a new look as the environment was made tidy throughout the day.

The campaign was coordinated by a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Lambe Kayode Mustapha, as part of the efforts to fulfill one of the responsibilities of students of International Communication Course.

Earlier in his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Adesina Lukman Azeez, advised students to carry out the exercise with total commitment, noting that “this will also help you to cultivate the habit of cleaning your homes on regular basis”.

The don also warned students not to engage themselves in anything that could be disastrous to their health, stressing that “we are conscious about your welfare and safety, your safety matters a lot to us and I wish you all the best and safety “.

The Dean noted that this programme was not just an educative one but would also serve as a moral impact for every individual.

The Acting Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr  K. K. Kadir, who was represented at the event by Dr Patrick Udende, commended the efforts of the organisers of the programme for keeping the annual campaign on cleanliness alive and urged for its continuity.

Also speaking, a former Head of the Department of Telecommunication Sciences, Dr  Tiamiyu Osuolale AbdulRahman, said that cleanliness would always be next to Godliness.

While saying that cleanliness brings people closer to God, he urged students and staff of the University to always keep their environments clean and sanitized.

In his remarks, Dr Ganiya Balogun of the Department of Computer Science advised students to inculcate the culture of cleanliness and make it to be part of them, saying “charity begins at home”.
