Ali-Agan harps on patriotism as IEDPU honours Imam, others 

A former Head, Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, Prof. Abubakr Imam Ali-Agan, has charged indigenes of Ilorin Emirate to devote more energy, talents, intellect and other resources towards the promotion of peace and progress of the community.

Prof. Ali-Agan stated this penultimate Sunday (February 4, 2024) while delivering a lecture at a special prayer session held in honour of some notable indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate community, including the Deputy Editor of UNILORIN BULLETIN, Mr Abubakar Imam, and the National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, fsi, at the IEDPU Building, Pakata Roundabout, Ilorin.

The cleric-don, who is also the proprietor of An-Nur Group of Schools, Ilorin, explained that it is very important for every indigene and resident of a community to play positive roles as regards the advancement of their respective communities, saying that it is part of the Muslim faith to be patriotic.

Prof. Ali-Agan, who is also a popular Islamic broadcaster, commended Mr Imam for his selfless contributions to the progress of Ilorin Emirate, saying that within a short period of time, the renowned journalist has made his marks.

Prof. Ali-Agan said that the recognition accorded Mr Imam is well-deserved as he explained that despite his relatively young age, he has made imperishable footprints in the sand of time as far as Ilorin Emirate community is concerned.

He added that the Deputy Editor, who is also the National Secretary of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), has become well-known far and beyond the shores of Ilorin Emirate for his scholarly outputs.

While praying for long life and sound health for the UNILORIN BULLETIN Deputy Editor to enable him serve the community and humanity the more, Prof. Ali-Agan urged Mr Imam and others who were honoured at the event not to relent in their efforts as he explained that service towards the peace and progress of one’s nation and community and, in fact, humanity is a highly rewarding venture.

Others who were honoured along with Mr Imam were the immediate past National President of IEDPU, who is also an alumnus of the the University of Ilorin, Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi; the National Vice President of the Union, Alhaji AbdulRauf Babatunde Issa; the Majority Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdulkadir Oba Magaji and a former Force Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Police, Mr Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, who was recently elevated to the rank of Police Commissioner.

The event was witnessed by many dignitaries from far and near including a former Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin, Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman: the Kwara State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Mustapha Salman Isowo, and a retired Permanent Secretary in the Kwara State Civil Service, Mallam Bolakale Abdullahi Yusuf, among others.
