Alaro makes National Fatwa Committee

A former Head, Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulRazzaq AbdulMajeed Alaro, mni, has been appointed into the National Fatwa Committee by the Centre for Islamic Legal Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The appointment of Prof. Alaro was conveyed in a letter dated January 9,2024 and addressed to the renowned cleric-don by the Director of the Centre, Dr Sa’ad Musa Abubakar, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN BULLETIN last Monday(January 29, 2024).

Dr Abubakar explained that the appointment of Prof. Alaro was premised on his religious scholarship, wisdom, experience and exemplary leadership among the Muslim Ummah.

The Director expressed the conviction of the management and staff of his Centre that Prof. Alaro’s membership of the Committee would enable the foremost expert on Islamic financial services to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the assignment.

He similarly expressed the optimism that the appointment would also afford Prof. Alaro the opportunities of rendering his contributions towards the enlightenment and upliftment of the Muslim Ummah, especially on the issuance of Fatwa on contemporary and emerging issues relating to matrimonial causes and financial transactions.

The Committee, which comprises 23 members, is made up of highly respected traditional rulers and distinguished Islamic scholars including the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, CFR; the Emir of Zaria, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamali, CFR; the Emir of Lafia, who is also a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Dr Sidi Dauda Bage,CFR; and the Grand Kadi of Gombe State,Justice Abdullahi Kano as well as the Grand Mufti of Ilorin, Shaykh Sulaiman Faruk Onikijipa,OON,among others.

Responding to the appointment, Prof. Alaro expressed gratitude to Allah and the authorities of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria’s Centre for Islamic Legal Studies for the privilege conferred on him to serve at that level.

Prof. Alaro, who spoke to UNILORIN BULLETIN, also thanked the management of the University of Ilorin for the support and encouragement he has always been afforded to offer services to other institutions and agencies beyond the shores of the University.

He assured the management of the University of Ilorin and his well-wishers that he would continue to do his best to ensure that the flag of knowledge and the alluring image of the University of Ilorin are kept aloft everywhere he goes.
