The Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development (RCE) will hold a roundtable on “Child Labour: The Menace of Street Hawking” this Thursday (April 27, 2017) at the University of Ilorin Auditorium Basement.

A statement made available to Unilorin Bulletin by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Prof. L. A. Yahaya, disclosed that the roundtable will commence at 10.00a.m.

According to the statement, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad, will be the Chairman of the occasion while the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), will be the Chief Host and the Focal Person of RCE, Ilorin, Prof. A. B. Olayemi, is the Host.

The Ilorin University Medical Students' Association (ILUMSA) has concluded arrangements to mark this year's World Malaria Day with a special lecture.

Tagged “The Inaugural Professor Olugbenga Mokuolu Annual Lecture on Malaria”, the event will hold this Tuesday (April 25, 2017) to coincide with the World Health Organisation's (WHO) World Malaria Day.

According to a statement made available to Unilorin Bulletin, the Lecture would hold at the Nightingale Hall, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), at 9.00a.m.

The 167th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ilorin will be delivered this Thursday (April 13, 2017) by Prof. Pius O. Abioje of the Department of Religions, Faculty of Art.

The Lecture, entitled “Christian Prophets and Other Prophets in Nigeria”, holds at the Main Auditorium at 5.00p.m, under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON).

The 36th edition of the Registry Seminar Series will hold this Wednesday (April 26, 2017) at the Basement of the University Auditorium by 11.00a.m.

Following its successful hosting of the 2nd edition of the National Youth Games last year, the University of Ilorin has again got the Federal Government's nod to host the 3rd edition of the Games holding between September 7 and 17 this year.

This year's edition of the Games is expected to be provide the opportunity for the selection of athletes that will represent the country at the World Youth Games to be held in Argentina.

This was made known last Friday (March 31, 2017) at a meeting between the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the management of the University of Ilorin.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Christian Chineaka Ohaa, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for accepting to host two editions of the games back-to-back.

He added that Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali's support was a huge boost for the success of the games last year.

Speaking through the Director of the Nigeria Grassroots Sports, Dr. Ademola Are, the Permanent Secretary commended the staff of the University for what he described as their “selfless support” during the last edition of the youth games held at the institution.

The Permanent Secretary explained that this year's edition of the games would be expanded with more games and greater sanction for any state that fields over-aged athletes.

He promised that the Ministry would leave a legacy at the University that would contribute to the development of sports in the institution.

“We will contribute something tangible as a legacy here”, he remarked.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), said that the September date for the games would be the best time, judging by the University's calendar.

Assuring the Ministry of the University's continued support, Prof. Ambali said, “We are ready to host your contingents once again. We also want to thank you for you promised legacy project in the University. Having a swimming pool will be very helpful for the sports unit in the University”.

Other officials of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development present at the meeting were Mr. Okere Immanuel and Mr. Ogundairo Ojo.

In the company of the Vice-Chancellor were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (MS), Prof. A. Y. Abdulkareem; the Deputy Registrar (Human Resources), Mrs. R. A. Okojie; the University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniyi; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. O. Dere; and the Principal Assistant Registrar in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor; Mr. A. Sayuti.

Also present at the meeting were the Unilorin Sports Council Chairman, Prof. U. B. Eke; the University Director of Sports, Prof. O. O. Obiyemi; the Assistant Director; Dr. S. T. Bakinde and Mr. R. O. Babamale.
