UNILORIN reaffirms commitment to strategic partnerships

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has reaffirmed the commitment the University to strengthening collaborations that promote intellectual development, digital innovation and national growth.

Prof. Egbewole stated this last Wednesday (May 13, 2026) while receiving the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, who visited him ahead of his participation at the 4th Biennial International Conference of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences where the Customs boss delivered the Keynote Address.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye, described the visit as a great honour to the University, noting that it was not the first time the Customs boss would be visiting the institution.

The Legal luminary said that the University values its enduring relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and its development partners.

Prof. Egbewole also acknowledged the collaboration between the University and RUDN University, Russia commending the spirit of partnership and academic engagement demonstrated by the institutions.

The Vice Chancellor observed that the choice of Dr Adeniyi as keynote speaker at the Conference was timely and significant, particularly with the focus on the digital economy and the growing interface between human capacity and Artificial Intelligence.

He noted that the lecture would greatly benefit students and members of the University community, especially young people preparing to contribute meaningfully to the Nigerian economy.

Prof. Egbewole assured the visitors of the continuous support of rge University for initiatives that encourage innovation, policy discussions and national development, while expressing optimism that the relationship between the University and the Nigeria Customs Service would continue to grow stronger.

In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, who led the visitors to the Vice Chancellor’s office, described the Faculty as a hub of innovation and interdisciplinary learning dedicated to producing graduates capable of thriving in a rapidly evolving digital world.

She noted that the collaboration among the five departments has continued to strengthen research, creativity, and technological advancement within the University community and beyond.

Prof. Abdulbaqi emphasised that the gathering reflected the growing importance of global academic partnerships in addressing contemporary challenges in communication, information management, and emerging technologies.

According to her, the exchange of ideas and cultural experiences among participants would further promote research excellence, mutual understanding, and international scholarly cooperation.

She also reaffirmed the commitment of the Faculty to providing an enabling environment for learning, innovation, and impactful research, adding that the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Ilorin remains committed to contributing meaningfully to national and global development through digital education and knowledge sharing.

On hus part, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr Adeniyi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received during his visit to the University, describing the honour accorded him and his delegation as overwhelming.

Dr Adeniyi noted that speaking before professors and academics was a great responsibility, adding that the high expectations placed on him reflected the university’s respect and confidence in his leadership.

He also prayed for peace and stability in Kwara State and Nigeria, while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and joyful celebration of the forthcoming Salah festival.

While presenting a souvenior to the visitor, the Registrar and Secertary of the University Govening Council, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, said that the University of ilorin has remained a reference point. He said Unilorin set the peace and others follow.
