UNILORIN Artisan Training Committee visits members, advocates skills drive, collaboration

The University of Ilorin Committee on Artisan Training has visited members of the Artisan community to sensitise them on the need to support and participate in the forthcoming workshop on artisan training.
The visit formed part of a collaboration between the University of Ilorin and the Kwara State Artisan Congress, which is aimed at strengthening skills development and economic empowerment among artisans.
The engagement emphasised collective participation.with stakeholders urging members to take full ownership of the programme designed to equip them with modern, technology-driven skills.
Leading the delegation to the Artisans State’s Secretariat last Tuesday ( April 7,2026), the Director of the Institute of Education and Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Yusuf Abdulraheem, explained that the initiative is structured to bridge the gap between local capacity and contemporary technological demands.
He noted that artisans remain central to economic growth and national development, urging the government to fulfil its promises to the artisans, whom he described as indispensable partners in development.
While advocating for more collaboration, Prof. Abdulraheem also urged the state government to support the committee’s efforts in order to strengthen cooperation and enhance participation from artisans across the state.
A representative of the University of Ilorin Microfinance Bank, Mr Akanbi Issah, highlighted the benefits awaiting participants, stating that artisans would have access to financial support opportunities, business development guidance, and structured funding during and after the training workshop.
Mr Issah added that the Bank is committed to providing accessible financial schemes that would enable participants to apply the acquired skills for sustainable enterprise growth.
In his remarks, the Artisans State Chairman, and Co-Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Jimoh Ayinde Adeshina, appreciated the visit and described it as timely and impactful.
He urged members to come out in large numbers to register and benefit from the opportunity, noting that unity and active participation would enhance the success of the programme and improve members’ welfare.
