Man O’ War honours Akogun for support

The Man O’ War Nigeria, University of Ilorin Cadet Unit, has commended the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, on his support, encouragement and consistent publicity for the organisation’s activities as he was also presented with a commemorative souvenir.
The presentation took place last Wednesday (June 16,2026) at Mr Akogun’s office as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of Man O’ War Nigeria.
Speaking during the presentation, the Coordinator-in-Chief of the University of Ilorin Cadet Unit and Assistant Superintendent of Man O’ War (ASM),Yusuf Adekola Adebayo, described the Directorate of Corporate Affairs as a vital link between the University and the outside world.
He specifically commended Mr Akogun for his dedication and professionalism in coordinating the University’s publicity efforts, noting that his support has greatly enhanced the visibility of the activities of the Cadet Unit over the years.
Mr Adebayo acknowledged the contributions of the Director to the growth of the Unit as he also expressed appreciation for his unwavering support during past and current sessions.
According to Mr Adebayo, Man O’ War Nigeria was established in February 1986, making the organisation 40 years old.
He explained that the souvenir presentation formed part of the celebration of the milestone anniversary.
Responding, Mr Akogun expressed his appreciation for the honour, describing the gesture as a recognition not only of him but also of the entire Directorate of Corporate Affairs.
He stated that it is the responsibility of the Directorate to publicise and report activities taking place within the University, adding that the Directorate does not expect rewards for carrying out its duties.
“We are simply doing our job as the image-makers of the University,” he said.
Mr Akogun described the Man O’ War as one of the training grounds for future leaders and professionals, expressing confidence that members of the UNILORIN Cadet Unit would attain greater heights in their respective careers. He also congratulated the newly recruited cadets.
The Director urged members of the organisation not to lose sight of the objectives for which they joined the Unit and advised them to remain committed to their academic pursuits.
He further encouraged them to make their parents, the University and themselves proud through exemplary conduct and achievements while maintaining a strong connection with their alma mater after graduation.
Mr Akogun pledged his continued support for the Unit and advised its members to always notify the Directorate ahead of events to ensure adequate coverage.
