Ibraheem proposes KU8+ Annual Sports Festival

The Director of Sports, University of Ilorin, Prof. Tajudeen Olanrewaju Ibraheem, has called for the establishment of an annual sports festival among members of the Consortium of Kwara Universities (KU8+).
Prof. Ibraheem made the call last Tuesday (April 14, 2026) in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The Director, who commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for initiating the Forum, said that the consideration of his proposal for adoption would be a great addition to the plethora of achievements being recorded by the KU8+.
He said that with more than ten members, it was hightime the institutions took their collaborations to the next level through the organisation of the annual sports festival.
Prof. Ibraheem said that the festival could start with students participation in various sporting events like football, handball, basketball and table tennis, among others, before other more technical ones, saying that staff involvement could be given consideration later.
While he commended the formation of the KU8+ and acknowledged the impacts it has made in promoting teaching, learning and research among the staff and students of member-institutions, Prof. Ibraheem said that the adoption of his proposal would also propel the group towards achieving the essence of its formation.
The don said that the proposed annual festival would promote unity and friendship among staff and students of the universities and also stimulate national integration.
Prof. Ibraheem, who teaches at the Department of Human Kinetics Education, also said that the proposal, when adopted, would also lead to the discovery of hitherto hidden talents from each of the institutions.
On the hosting of the maiden edition of the festival, Prof. Ibraheem explained that the University of Ilorin has all it would take to host participants and officials, saying that having hosted the National Youths Games for many years, the University has more than enough facilities to host the proposed KU8+ Sports Festival.
He also expressed conviction that the sponsorship of the festival would also not be a problem as he said that many corporate organisations would be willing to take up its sponsorship.
