Adisa pledges commitment to peace journalism, academic excellence

A newly promoted Professor of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Rasaq M. Adisa, has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the core values of knowledge, innovation, and societal impact in line with the University’s mandate of excellence, integrity, and service.
Prof. Adisa gave this assurance penultimate Wednesday (April 8, 2026) in an interview with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The don expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the elevation, describing it as both a privilege and a call to greater responsibility.
“I feel deeply humbled and grateful for this milestone. It is not merely a personal achievement, but a reflection of years of mentorship, collaboration, and support from colleagues, students, and the University community,” he said.
He added that his promotion represents not only an honour but also a renewed commitment to advancing scholarship, particularly in Peace Journalism and Media Studies—fields he described as increasingly critical in today’s global landscape.
Speaking on his future plans, Prof. Adisa said that he would continue to pursue approaches that foster dialogue, conflict resolution, and social cohesion.
He said “At a time when misinformation and divisive narratives are prevalent, the role of the media as a force for peace is more critical than ever’’, adding, ‘‘I will continue to mentor students, engage in impactful research, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to national development.”
The don also urged members of the Faculty to remain committed to teaching, research, and community service.
He said, “Let us strengthen our collaborations, support one another, and strive to elevate the Faculty to even greater heights. Academic excellence thrives in an environment of mutual respect, innovation, and shared vision.”
Prof. Adisa emphasised that collective efforts would help in shaping a new generation of media professionals capable of making positive impacts on the society.
“Together, we can continue to nurture media practitioners who will influence society positively,” he added.
