UNILORIN CBT Rain Semester exams seamless-Tella
By Idris Alooma
The Chairman of the University of Ilorin Centre for Computer-Based Test (CBT), Prof. Adeyinka Tella, has described the ongoing Rain Semester examinations of the University as “seamless”.
He also confirmed that the Centre had been advancing its mission towards becoming the largest CBT hub for international, national, and state examinations in Kwara State.
Speaking last Tuesday (30th June,2026) on UNILORIN FM’s popular current affairs programme, Oro to n lo; anchored by the General Manager of the Station, Mr Idris Alooma, Prof. Tella disclosed that the Centre currently operates six halls with 250 computers each. He revealed an ambitious expansion plan to 36 halls, which will enable 10,000 candidates to sit for exams simultaneously and position UNILORIN as the dominant force in computer-based testing across Kwara State and beyond.
He also said that power disruptions, which used to be a major threat to digital exams, are now history at the Centre as he commended the University management for installing inverters in all the halls, a move that eliminated its dependence on public power supply.
Prof. Tella also announced that efforts were ongoing by the Centre to migrate to remote CBT, which would allow students to write exams from their homes without coming to the campus. He added that results would also be released instantly after each examinations.
The don also explained that inclusion and fairness remain central to the Centre’s operations. He said that students with special needs were accommodated in a dedicated Hall F with adequate human and technical support to ensure comfort and equal opportunity.
For candidates affected by genuine circumstances, Prof. Tella confirmed that make-up tests would be organised for those who missed CBT sessions, while students whose exams were interrupted by rare technical hitches had been allowed to rewrite immediately. He emphasised that such cases were very few, a reflection of the system’s overall stability and preparedness.
While saying that integrity is non-negotiable, Prof. Tella warned against examination malpractices, stressing that the consequences are enormous because the rules would never be compromised.
He appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for his consistent support as he singled out the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, for her direct supervision of the activities of the Centre. The support of top management staff of the University, he said, has been critical to sustaining the momentum and credibility of the Centre.
Prof. Tella also commended the entire CBT team whose collective efforts, he explained, delivered a hitch-free Rain Semester examinations. He specifically praised the Operations Manager, technical and engineering staff, committee members, health providers, security personnel, and environmental and electrical units for their dedication to duties.
