The University of Ilorin has taken a major step to safeguard the health and wellbeing of members of the University community as the Ag. Director of the University Health Services, Dr Rasheed Adekeye Odunola, confirmed the approval of the sum of ₦90,000,000 for the procurement of drugs for the University Clinic.

This was disclosed by the seasoned medical practitioner last Tuesday (April 28, 2026) while featuring on ”Oro To Nlo”, a special programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM . The programme was anchored by the General Manager of the station, Mr Idris Alooma.

Dr Odunola emphasised that the initiative is designed to serve staff, students, and all stakeholders as he urged everyone to prioritise his or her health and wellbeing.

He also confirmed positive outcomes from recent academic activities, noting that the students’ continuous assessment was seamless and hitch-free, with no emergency case recorded.

Dr Odunola reiterated the University’s zero tolerance for drug abuse, highlighting that toxicology screening is a Federal Government policy for all new staff to certify that they are free from drug consumption.

He said that the policy underscores UNILORIN’s dedication to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for all.

While saying that the University Clinic is well-equipped with qualified, experienced, and core professional staff, Dr Odunola explained that the Clinic also boasts of those he called locum doctors who support existing personnel to ensure adequate coverage and prompt service delivery.

He added that the clinic works closely with the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and the Counseling Unit to handle mental health and behavioural disorders in order to ensure holistic care.

Speaking on other related issues, Dr Odunola assured all that there is no special preference for any staff member except in cases of emergency, which require urgent attention.

Dr Odunola also explained that the Clinic consistently conducts research and surveillance to prevent outbreaks of endemic, epidemic, and pandemic diseases with a view to “nipping such in the bud.”

He also said that international students and new staff are also exposed to proper orientation for their welfare and integration into the community.

Dr Odunola also disclosed that adequate measures have been put in place to assess students towards preventing misuse of medical excuses during tests or examinations.

The Ag. Director commended the University Management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for prioritising the welfare and health of students, staff, and the entire University community.
