UNILORIN signs MoU with Haruna Rasheed Centre, Omo Hiyah College to expand Diploma programmes

The University of Ilorin has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Haruna Rasheed Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, and Omo Hiyah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, as part of efforts targeted at expanding access to quality education in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
The agreements, which would facilitate the commencement of a Diploma in Common Law and Islamic Law at Haruna Rasheed Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, and a Diploma in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Omo Hiyah College, were formalised last Monday (April 27, 2026) at a brief ceremony held in the Committee Room of the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
Speaking during the meetings, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, appreciated the partnering institutions for their willingness to affiliate with the University.
While stating that the University is driven by the core values of integrity and excellence, Prof. Egbewole said that affiliated institutions must align strictly with these principles.
The Vice Chancellor stated that as part of the University’s quality assurance mechanisms, designated officers would conduct periodic, and unannounced visits to the institutions to ensure compliance with approved academic standards and processes.
Prof. Egbewole, who was recently appointed into the Nigerian Body of Benchers, expressed optimism that the partnership would grow beyond its current scope, fostering deeper academic collaboration and institutional development.
He also stressed the need to uphold established academic protocols, particularly the conduct of matriculation ceremonies, which he described as solemn and significant in the life of every student.
According to him, institutions must treat such ceremonies with the seriousness they deserve, while ensuring that students understand the importance and compulsory nature of matriculation.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that adherence to institutional regulations and academic guidelines remains critical to sustaining the credibility and reputation of the University.
The team from Haruna Rasheed Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies’ was led by its Proprietor, Mallam Abubakar Haruna, and it included the Ag. Provost, Mall. Abdulmumeen Lawal and the Ag. Registrar, Dr Murtala Imam, while the Omo Hiyah’s team was also led by the proprietor, Mallam Khalilullahi Abubakar, who was accompanied by the Director, Hajia Ibrahim Fatimoh; the Ag. Registrar, Mallam Khalilullahi Mubaraq; the Secretary, Mallam Abdurrasheed Soro and a lecturer at the college, Mallam Muhammad Bashir.
