Egbewole commends IMAN for sustaining Islamic approaches to tackling societal ills

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the Islamic Missionary Association of Nigeria (IMAN) for sustaining the tradition of using Islamic approaches to address societal problems.

Prof. Egbewole gave this commendation penultimate Saturday (March 14, 2026) while speaking at the Ramadan Lecture Series, organised by IMAN at the Islamic Centre, Opposite Eid Praying Ground, Ilorin.

The Vice Chancellor, who presided over the event, said the essence of sustaining this gesture by IMAN is very key to securing a better future.

“As Muslims, as human beings, we must appreciate the fact that one day we will be accountable to Almighty Allah who is our creator, and that is why we must purify our intentions and do everything in accordance with the prescription of the laws and the prescription of Allah,” he said.

Prof. Egbewole equally appreciated the guest speaker for his insightful lecture and urged participants to utilise the lessons derived from the lecture to ameliorate anti-corruption efforts in their various organisations.

Delivering his lecture, themed “Islamic Approach to Anti-corruption Crusade in Nigeria”, the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Abdulateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, who was represented by Prof. Tajudeen  Adejare Adegbite, called on Muslim leaders in Nigeria not to see corruption as only a political or economic problem but also a moral and spiritual challenge.

Prof. Oladimeji explained that  Allah curses whoever gives and takes bribe , stressing that Islam provides a complete solution through faith, justice, accountability, and fear of Allah.He said,if all these are strictly guided by Nigerian leaders and citizens, Nigeria will experience justice, prosperity, and sustainable development.

The Al-Hikmah Vice Chancellor highlighted some of the  causes of corruption in Nigeria, which included weak moral value,lack of fear of Allah,greed and materialism, social pressure to get wealth and weak enforcement of law, among others.

The don also listed the Islamic strategies to combat corruption, which included promotion of ethical leadership, strengthening accountability, encouraging moral education and ensuring good governance.

He said that Islam encouraged the teaching of honesty, integrity, and accountability from childhood through Quranic and Islamic education, pointing out that leaders must demonstrate integrity and accountability in any position they occupy.
