The University of Ilorin and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) targeted at deepening collaboration in professional human resource management and providing students of the University with opportunities for dual academic and professional certification.
The agreement was signed last Monday (May 4, 2026) at the Council Chambers of the CIPM, CIPM Avenue, Lagos.
Under the terms of the MoU, CIPM will offer students enrolled in the University’s B.Sc. Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM) programme the opportunity to obtain dual academic and professional certification.
Additionally, students from other academic disciplines within the University will also have access to similar dual certification opportunities through clearly defined pathways.
The Institute will also extend membership pathways to the academic and administrative staff of the University through its Practitioners’ and Executive Routes, in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive on the professionalisation of human resource management within the civil service.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the partnership as unique and strategic to the future of human capital development in the country.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the growing interactions between both institutions reflected a strong commitment to sustaining the relationship, adding that the visit of the CIPM team to Ilorin the previous week and the University’s reciprocal visit to Lagos for the signing ceremony explained the seriousness attached to the collaboration.
Prof. Egbewole appealed to the Institute to continue to extend certain professional privilege and opportunities to the University, particularly in ways that would enable students and staff to benefit maximally from the partnership. He also expressed the desire for some of the programmes and initiatives being carried out at the CIPM headquarters in Lagos to be replicated at the University of Ilorin.
He disclosed that students of the University possess exceptional qualities and should be given special consideration in the implementation of the agreement, saying that the university remained committed to ensuring that its students derive maximum professional and academic benefits from the collaboration.
On his part, the President and Chairman of Council of CIPM, Mr Ahmed Ladan Gobir, appreciated the Management of the University of Ilorin for honouring the Institute by coming to its headquarters for the signing ceremony.
He added that officials of the Institute had earlier met with members of the University’s Human Resources Club, who expressed excitement and optimism over the partnership and the opportunities it would create for students and future human resource professionals.
