…donates N10m to Faculty of Social Sciences

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Production Services and Rural Development, Senator Saliu Mustapha, has promised his support for the continuous growth and development of the University of Ilorin just as he made a donation of N10, 000, 000 to the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Senator Mustapha made the donation last Monday (June 30, 2025) in his remarks at the Distinguished Personality Lecture held in his honour by the Faculty at the University Auditorium. The lecture was delivered by the Co- Chairman and Coordinator of the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reform, Prof. Attahiru Muhammadu Jega.
The federal lawmaker, who expressed gratitude to the University for the honour done to him through the well-attended lecture, said that he would work with the University towards making use of its large expanse of land for ventures that would be of tremendous benefit to the University and the nation at large.
Senator Mustapha disclosed that he would discuss with an institution in Thailand to partner with the University on commercial agriculture.
He said that the establishment of the large scale mechanised farm on the campus would not only boost agricultural production but also serve as a training ground for students pursuing Agriculture and other relevant academic programmes.
The Senator, who is also the Turaki of Ilorin, also promised to build an ICT compliant facility for the use of the Faculty as he said that a team from his office would discuss with the Dean of the Faculty to know what is exactly needed.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Adedoyin Omede, commended Senator Mustapha for his impactful contributions to national development, particularly as a politician and legislator, over the years.
She encouraged the Senator and other well-meaning individuals to support the University towards a seamless discharge of its responsibilities.
A major highlight of the event was the conferment of an award of excellence on Senator Mustapha by the Faculty.
The event was attended by many dignitaries including the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; Principal Officers; the Provost, Deans and Directors, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, who was represented by the Balogun Gambari of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu Adebayo; the Olofa of Offa , Alhaji Mohammad Gbadamosi Esuwoye, who was represented by the Asoju Oba of Offa, Alhaji Muhammad Adeniyi; and the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, a former Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Alhaji Shehu AbdulGafar, OON, and a prominent community leader , Alhaji L. A. K. Jimoh among others.
