Alaro gets second term as UAS Head of Research

The Director, Quality Assurance Unit, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulRazzaq AbdulMajeed Alaro, has been re-elected as the Head of Research and Translation Committee of the Union of African Scholars (UAS).

The re-election of the renowned scholar of Islamic Law was one of the highlights of the 3rd Congress of the Union held in Dakar, Senegal, between 26th and 27th April, 2025.

               The Union is a body peopled by eminent scholars from all over Sub-Saharan Africa who are interested in promoting better understanding of Islam and encouraging peaceful co-existence.

Prof. Alaro, an expert in Islamic finance and former Head, Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, was first elected into the position in 2020. With his re-election, Prof. Alaro would hold the office for another term of five years that would run from 2025 to 2030.

               Other members of the continental committee are Prof. Harun Meega from Mali, who is the Deputy Head; Prof. Yunus Abdali Musa from Kenya; Prof. Musa Umar Keita of Guinea Republic and ⁠Dr Abdullah Sajai from Comoros.

Also elected into the Committee are Dr Salah Hasan Abdullah from the Chad Republic; Sheikh Abubakr Soolih, who represents Benin Republic; Sheikh Umar Sal of Senegal; Sheikh Umar Phiri from Zimbabwe; Dr Muhammad Taj Arousy of Ethiopia and Sheikh Mbowana Ahmad from Tanzania.
