The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commiserated with the Dean of Student Affairs and Chairman of the University’s Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Alex Morenikeji Akanmu, on the death of his beloved father, Pa James Adeniyi Akanmu.

Pa Akanmu, who was a prominent community leader in Ejigbo, Osun State, passed on last Wednesday (April 16, 2025) at the ripe age of 80.

Prof. Egbewole, In a condolence message issued on his behalf by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, described the demise of Chief Akanmu as “very painful, coming at this point in time when the family would need his sagacious counsels and strong patriarchal support most.”

Describing the late octogenarian as “a passionate community builder, a committed family man, and an indispensable rallying point for community development activities”, Prof. Egbewole said that his demise is “a great loss not only to the Akanmu family but also to the entire Ejigbo community, and humanity at large.”

The Vice Chancellor, however, urged Dr Akanmu and other members of the family “not to grief too much over the loss of an exemplary patriarch but take solace in the fact that their father led a very fulfilled life.”

Prof. Egbewole prayed Almighty God to grant Papa’s soul peaceful repose.

He also beseeched God to grant “our own Dr Akanmu, his siblings and the entire Akanmu family the fortitude to bear the loss.”
