What I’ll do differently, new SU President, Adam, outlines vision

The President-elect of the University of Ilorin Students’ Union, Mr Mozeed Adam, has pledged to build a Students’ Union that is people-driven, solution-oriented, and institutional in its impact while prioritising the welfare, academic success, and overall development of the students.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin last Tuesday (July 14, 2026), the President-elect expressed appreciation to students for the confidence reposed in him, describing his election as both an honour and a profound responsibility.
According to him, his vision is to build a Students’ Union that every Unilorite can confidently identify with as a dependable voice and partner throughout their academic journey.
“My vision is to build a Students’ Union that is truly people-driven, solution-oriented, and institutional in its impact—a MODEL Union that every Unilorite can confidently identify with as a dependable voice and partner in their academic journey,” he said.
Adam explained that his administration would not merely react to students’ concerns but would proactively create opportunities, strengthen welfare, promote innovation, and establish enduring systems capable of outliving the administration.
To achieve this, he said his administration would be guided by the POWER Agenda, a framework that prioritises improved student welfare, stronger academic advocacy, expanded empowerment and entrepreneurship opportunities, enhanced transportation and healthcare initiatives, sports development, digital innovation, and transparent governance.
He stressed that every policy and programme would be measured by one fundamental question: “How does this improve the lives and experiences of an average Unilorite?”
On students’ representation, the President-elect emphasised that effective leadership begins with listening.
He assured students that the administration would maintain open, accessible, and responsive communication channels through regular engagements with Faculty and Departmental leadership, digital feedback platforms, physical meetings, and periodic consultations with students. According to him, no student’s concern would be considered too small to deserve attention.
Addressing welfare issues, Adam said that his administration would actively engage the University Management and relevant stakeholders to pursue practical solutions to challenges relating to transportation, water supply, healthcare, electricity, and other welfare concerns.
Academically, he pledged to strengthen advocacy on matters affecting students’ learning experience while collaborating with relevant authorities to promote a more conducive academic environment.
The President-elect noted that representation is not only about solving problems but also about creating opportunities. Consequently, he pledged to expand empowerment programmes, scholarship opportunities, mentorship initiatives, entrepreneurship support, and skills development platforms designed to prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
“Above all, every student will know that this administration listens, responds, and acts,” he assured.
Expressing gratitude to students for their overwhelming support, the President-elect described his election as a collective victory for every Unilorite rather than for an individual or group.
“To every Unilorite, thank you for believing in this vision. Your confidence in our team is both an honour and a profound responsibility. This victory is not for an individual or a group—it belongs to all of us. We are one community united by our shared desire to make our University even better,” he said.
He pledged to earn and sustain students’ trust through transparency, accessibility, accountability, and consistent delivery. He also promised regular communication, periodic updates on the administration’s activities and commitments, accountability for every decision, and openness to constructive criticism.
The President-elect further assured students that every Faculty, Department, level, and student constituency would be carried along in the administration’s programmes and decision-making processes.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, he called on all Unilorites to join him in building “a MODEL Union that is responsive, inclusive, innovative, and worthy of the pride associated with the University of Ilorin.”
He added that the future envisioned for the University community could only be achieved through collective effort, urging students to work together with the incoming administration to make the vision a reality.
