We’ll work with you, Social Sciences Faculty assures CILS

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ilorin, Prof. A. Y. Mohammed, has assured the management and staff of the University’s Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS) of the support of the Faculty
Prof. Mohammed gave this assurance last Monday (September 7, 2026) when he led the management team of the Faculty on a courtesy visit to the new Director of the CILS, Prof. Ali Arazeem Abdullahi, in his office.
The Dean, who congratulated the new Director and his Deputy, Dr Mahmud Danjuma, on their appointments, said that his Faculty was happy that one of its members had been found worthy of heading the CILS.
Prof. Mohammed added that he was convinced that the new Director, who teaches at the Department of Sociology, has all it would take to lead the Centre to greatness.
The Dean said that apart from rejoicing with the new Director and his Deputy, the visit was also informed by the need for him and members of his entourage to familiarise themselves with the mandates of the Centre.
Prof. Mohammed said he and members of his entourage were excited and amazed by what they saw at the Centre, pointing out that he never knew that the Centre was endowed with such fascinating collections.
The Dean assured the management of the CILS that his Faculty would work with the Centre towards preserving the history, culture and heritage of Ilorin.
Responding, the Director of CILS, Prof. Abdullahi thanked the Dean and his team for the visit and their kind words, which, he said, were quite stimulating and encouraging.
Prof. Abdullahi, who is the sixth Director of the CILS, took time to explain the mandates of the Centre to his guests as he also took them round the Gallery of the Centre.
Among those who accompanied the Dean on the visit were the Sub-Dean of the Faculty, Dr M. A. Adebiyi; the Faculty Officer, Mr Folusho Olobayo; the Chairman of the Faculty of Social Sciences Social Media and Digital Committee (FSSSMDC), Dr O. S. Balogun, as well as other members of the Committee such as Dr K. O. Laro, Dr Sadiat I. Aliyu, and the Committee’s Secretary, Mr Abdulsalam Abubakar.
