UNIMAID VC condoles Prof. Egbewole over Ambali’s death

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele, has condoled with the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on the passing of the University’s ninth Vice Chancellor, the late Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON.
The condolence message was delivered penultimate Thursday (July 9, 2026) on behalf of the Chief Executive of the University of Maiduguri by the Dean of the University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Yaqub Ahmed Geidam, during a condolence visit to the better by far University’.
The delegation was led to the Vice Chancellor’s Office by the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), University of Ilorin, Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin, Prof. Saliu Akanni Ameen, and they were received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, and the Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mrs. Azeezat Quadri Ibrahim.
In the condolence letter, Prof. Mele expressed sorrow over the demise of Prof. Ambali, describing him as a distinguished veterinarian, accomplished academic, administrator and visionary leader whose contributions to higher education and national development would remain enduring.
He recalled that the late Prof. Ambali served the University of Maiduguri with distinction as Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for two terms, Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Vice Chancellor’s Representative on the Board of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and Representative of Senate on Council, among several other important positions.
According to the University of Maiduguri Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ambali’s remarkable contributions to education, research and institutional development left an indelible mark on the University of Maiduguri and the broader academic community in Nigeria.
He further noted that the late former Vice Chancellor’s zeal, hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment to service would be greatly missed, not only by his family and the University of Ilorin, but also by the University of Maiduguri and the entire veterinary profession in Nigeria.
He prayed that the Almighty Allah grant Prof. Egbewole, the University of Ilorin community, and the family of the late Prof. Ambali the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, while praying that Allah admits the deceased into Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
