Unilorite shines at French contest

… Jawondo, Dongmo hail feat

A 300 Level student of the Department of French, University of Ilorin, Miss Damaris Olorunsogo, has  emerged as the winner of the just concluded TV French Debate. She was also awarded a cash prize of ₦1,000,000 and a commemorative plaque.

The competition brought together outstanding French students of the University of Ilorin,  the University of Lagos, the Lagos State University, University of Ibadan, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), as well as participants from the Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry.

Reacting to the development, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo, congratulated Miss Olorunsogo for making herself and the University proud.

Prof. Jawondo similarly commended the Head of the Department of French, University of Ilorin, and staff and students of the Department for producing a regional champion in French proficiency for the University.

He added that Miss Olorunsogo, who is currently undertaking her compulsory one-year language immersion programme at the Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry, has by the victory placed the Department, the Faculty and the entire University in the front burner.

Also speaking, the Head of the Department of French, Dr Adelaide Dongmo, said that the remarkable performance of Miss Olorunsogo is a reflection of her hard work.

Dr Dongmo added that the performance of Miss Olorunsogo is a clear attestation to the quality of academic training and mentorship provided by the Department of French and the University of Ilorin, which continues to produce graduates that are capable of competing and excelling on national and international platforms.

While describing her achievement as a source of pride and inspiration to the entire University community, Dr Dongmo congratulated Miss Olorunsogo on the outstanding feat and wished her greater success in her academic and professional journey.
