The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed profound sadness on the passing of a prominent community leader, Alhaja Munirat Hanafi Imam Olesin.
Alhaja Olesin, who was the mother of a veteran journalist and North Central Regional Editor of LEADERSHIP newspaper, Alhaji Abdullahi Olesin, died on Tuesday September 8, 2026 at the age of 87 years.
Prof. Egbewole, in a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the management, staff and students of the University received the news of the passing of the matriarch of the Olesin family of Ilorin with sadness.
The Vice Chancellor specifically sympathised with the veteran journalist and his siblings as well as other relations of the deceased, saying that the death of an elder, particularly at this point-in-time, is painful as her experience, wisdom and prayers are required to enhance national rebirth.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara universities (KU8+), encouraged Alhaji Olesin to take solace in the fact that his beloved mother lived a relatively long life and was able to leave behind remarkable legacies.
The Vice Chancellor prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and reward her good deeds with Aljanat Fridaous.
