UNILORIN safe for all-Ogidi

The Security Division of the University of Ilorin has assured staff members and students as well as other members of the University Community of the security of their lives and property.
This assurance was given last Tuesday (March 14, 2026) by the Acting Director of the University Security Division, Mr Paul Bamidele Ogidi, while featuring on “Table Talk”, a popular current affairs programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM. The programme was anchored by Mr Abdulkadir Yinka Saliu (Magaji Nda).
Mr Ogidi, who was represented on the programme by a Deputy Chief Security Officer and Chairman of the University of Ilorin Chapter of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), Mr Ibrahim Suberu, said that the University is not only safe for teaching, learning and research, it is also conducive for other relevant lawful activities.
He explained that the Security Division of the University would continue to leave no stone unturned to ensure that peace and security prevail at all times within the campus.
Mr Ogidi, who is a veteran security operative, said that there is no where on the campus without one form of security coverage or the other as he said that most parts of the University have CCTV camera to monitor happenings in order to attract swift attention.
He added that efforts are ongoing to acquire drone for security surveillance as he said that patrol vehicles are also stationed in several points on the campus to facilitate rapid response.
Mr Ogidi also confirmed that his Unit has been collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that the prevailing peace and tranquility in the University are not violated in anyway.
He explained that about 15 suspected criminals who settled illegally within the territory of the University were recently arrested by his Division in collaboration with the Nigeria Police.
He added that the suspects have been arraigned before a court of law for justice to be served on them.
Mr Ogidi encouraged members of the University Community to always avail his Division with prompt and relevant information, saying that everyone who sees something must cultivate the habit of saying something in the interest of all.
While saying that movement into and from the University is not allowed beyond 12 midnight, he encouraged staff and students of the University to always wear their identity cards in their own interests. He added that others who operate within the University must also devise a way of identifying themselves.
Speaking on the security of students who live off campus, Mr Ogidi said that their interests are also being given consideration. He said that the collaborations between the Security Division and the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services, is targeted at ensuring the safety of that category of students.
Mr Ogidi commended the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for the support has been enjoying from the management of the University.
