UNILORIN NUJ holds 13th anniversary Tuesday

Arrangements have been concluded by the University of Ilorin Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to celebrate its 13th anniversary and raise funds for its proposed Secretariat Complex. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

This was disclosed by the Chairman aof the Chapel, Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin while addressing newsmen last Wednesday (June 3, 2026) in his office.

Mr  Adewoyin explained that the event would be memorable as a seasoned media scholar and academic, Prof. Rasaq Adisa, would Guest Speaker. The Secretary General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, would be the Chief  Host.

Other guests expected at the event include the Chairman of the Kwara State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Mr Abdulateef Ahmed; the Olora of Ora, Oba Rilwan Olawale Yekini; and the leadership of the staff Unions on campus and other eminent personalities.

The Chairman expressed his gratitude to the management of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs led by Mr Kunle Akogun for the support. He also thanked members of the Chapel for their cooperation so far.

Meanwhile, the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ilorin Chapter, has assured the NUJ UNILORIN Chapel of its support before, during, and after the Chapel’s 13th Anniversary Celebration and unveiling of its Secretariat building scheduled for Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The assurance was given during a visit by a UCJ delegation to the Chapel Secretariat last Wednesday (June 3, 2026), as part of pre-anniversary engagements.

The delegation commended the NUJ UNILORIN Chapel for its achievements over the past 13 years and for the efforts in unveiling its Secretariat Building Project,  describing it as a reflection of dedication, progress, and professionalism within the Chapel.

The UCJ pledged continued support within their capacity towards the success of the anniversary programme.

Responding, the Chairman of NUJ UNILORIN Chapel, Mr  Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, appreciated the UCJ for the solidarity visit, describing it as a demonstration of unity and shared commitment to the growth of journalism practice on campus.

He reaffirmed the  commitment of the Chapel to mentoring young campus journalists and strengthening collaboration between professional and student media bodies, noting that the anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on achievements and deepen professional ties.
