UNILORIN joins 2026 millennium Fellowship class

The University of Ilorin has joined the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2026, with 131 undergraduate students selected to participate in the global leadership programme that is focused on advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin penultimate Friday (September 11,2026), Dr Nusirat Aderinsola Sadiku, who is supporting the Fellows at the University, and who was also nominated as the Campus Point of Contact (POC) and an Associate Member of the Millenium Campus Network (MCN) and Civic Learning Council, said that the selection gives the students of the University an opportunity to join a global network of young leaders working on projects aimed at addressing pressing challenges in their communities and contributing to the achievement of the 17 SDGs.
Dr Sadiku said, “The 2026 cohort comprises more than 5,500 undergraduate Fellows from over 330 campuses across 60 countries and territories, selected from a record-breaking pool of more than 76,000 applicants from over 6,000 campuses worldwide”.
She added, “The four-month fellowship, organised by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and Millennium Campus Network (MCN), brings together young people committed to addressing pressing challenges in their communities while contributing to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals”.
She also disclosed that the Fellows in the 2026 class would work on projects collectively advancing all 17 SDGs while gaining leadership experience, global exposure and practical skills.
“Through the Fellowship, the students aim to gain leadership skills, global exposure, and practical experience in advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Health), SDG 6 (Water and Sanitation), and SDG 13 (Climate Action),” he said.
The inclusion of the University of Ilorin in the 2026 cohort places its student Fellows within a global community of young changemakers working to translate ideas into practical action across campuses and communities around the world.
