UNILORIN INSU marks silver jubilee

The Igbomina National Students’ Union, University of Ilorin Chapter penultimate Saturday (July 25, 2026) marked the silver jubilee of its establishment.

Themed “Celebrating Our Legacy, Embracing Our Future,” the event, which held at the University Auditorium, brought together stakeholders, community leaders, students and distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, the National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Sir Bisi Fakayode, congratulated the students for promoting unity and development across Igbomina land.He urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the community wherever they find themselves.

He said,”While we are still on the tree of life, we must make our season count by leaving our communities better than we met them.

Sir Fakayode encouraged students to inspire their families and friends in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots and contribute to the development of Igbomina communities.

The guest speaker at the events, Dr T. S. Arinde, commended the Igbomina students for their achievements and urged them to remain united in advancing the interests of Igbomina land.

Dr Arinde, who teaches at the Department of the Performing and Film Arts, University of Ilorin, advised the students never to lose touch with their roots, noting that those who forget their heritage often regret it.

Speaking earlier, the President of INSU, University of Ilorin Chapter, Comrade Ajibaye Mashood Olanrewaju, urged the new leaders of the Union to build on the achievements of the previous administration as he called on members to remain united by focusing on issues that promote collective progress.

Major highlights of the event included cultural displays, ewi rendition, and the conferment of awards on some outstanding individuals including the Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Abdullateef Oladimeji; the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin,Mr Kunle Akogun; the Deputy Registrar, Academic Support Services, Records and Verification University of Ilorin, Mrs Toyin Temitope Adeoti; a  former Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Dr Rafiu Ajakaye; the Deputy Director of Information, University of Ilorin, Mr Segun Alabi; the Assistant Director of Information, University of Ilorin, Mr Mustafa Muhammad Abubakar; the former Special Assistant on Digital Innovation to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Ishola Kayode; INSU Staff Adviser,Dr T.S. Arinde; and the National President of NAKSS,Comrade Ibrahim Wakeel Ayinde.

Also honoured were the immediate past National President of the Igbomina Youth Assembly, Mr Segun Ajibola Olugbenga; the Kwara State Coordinator of the Reserved Seat for Women Campaign, Mrs Titilope Tawakaltu Anifowoshe; a former National President of INSU, Mr Sodiq Olalekan Bolaji; a former Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on New Media,  Akeweje Olayinka Fafoluyi; and Prince Lekan Adewoye, among others.
