UNILORIN hosts Egbewole national legal contest

The second edition of the annual Wahab Egbewole National Disability Rights Moot Competition has been held.

The contest, which took place last Thursday, (June 11, 2026), was held at the University Auditorium with guests from all over the country.

Participating institutions in the contest included the University of Ilorin, University of Port-Harcourt, Port-Harcourt; Moses Adasu University, Makurdi; Gregory University, Abia State, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Lagos State University, Ojoo; Caleb University; Crescent University, Abeokuta and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko; among others.

At the end of the competition, Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State, emerged overall winner with the University of Port Harcourt coming second place while the University of Ilorin finished third.

Cash prizes of ₦100,000 each were awarded to the best female and best male Oralists.The recipients were Tolu Adesina of Caleb University and Ridwan Busayo of the University of Ilorin.The awards were sponsored by Mr Tayo Jimoh, Esq.

The best memorial awards for both the applicant and respondent, sponsored by Mr S. B. Bamishile,

were won by the University of Benin.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Africa, Prof. Solomon Tambari Kemi, who was one of the competition’s judges, commended all participants for their outstanding performances and encouraged them to continue to strive for excellence.

He also praised the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for initiating the Competition, noting that it has positively impacted legal education and advocacy for disability rights across Law Faculties in Nigeria.

Dignitaries present at the event included the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research,Technology and Innovation),Prof. Mukhtar Etudaiye; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Lere Adeyemi; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; among others.
