UNILORIN hosts 37th CVCNU Conference

No fewer than 105 heads of universities across the country will this week converge on the University of Ilorin as the 37th Annual Conference of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) gets underway.
The Conference, slated to hold in the University Auditorium between Monday, August 17 and Thursday, August 20, 2026, under the Chief Host, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, the CVCNU Chairman, will be co-hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the Secretary-General of CVCNU, Prof. Andrew Haruna.
A major highlight of the Conference, themed “Building Resilient Universities for Nigeria,” will be the keynote address by Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Other speakers include Prof. Emeritus O. Jegede, Prof.Comfort Ekpo, Prof.Michael Faborode, Prof. Emeritus Musibau Akanji, Prof. Chris Piwuna, Prof. David Nkpe, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, Prof. Sagir Abbas, and Prof. Kenneth Oguzie.
The Conference will feature plenary sessions and interactive workshops on sustainable financing models, institutional governance and autonomy, integration of Artificial Intelligence, human capital competitiveness, and campus welfare.
The Chairperson of the Conference Local Organisng Committee (LOC), Prof. Taibat Moji Bakare-Odunola, told UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (August 12, 2026), that the Conference would showcase the values that stand UNILORIN out in the community of Nigerian higher education institutions.
The LOC Chairperson, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), at the University of Ilorin, pointed out that that the entire University community has been fully mobilised to host Vice Chancellors and academic leaders from across Nigeria.
Prof. Bakare-Odunola noted that the Conference is a strategic platform to showcase UNILORIN’s academic excellence, administrative stability, and enduring culture of peace.
She said, “The entire University community is fully mobilised for this historic event”, adding that, “It is a platform to showcase our research breakthroughs, seamless operations, and the values that define us as the ‘Better by Far’ university.”
The LOC Chairperson disclosed that the five-day conference would bring together Vice Chancellors from federal, state, and private universities, alongside policymakers, researchers, and development partners.
